TAMPA - The beat goes on in Ybor City - despite Friday's big fire.
The six-alarm blaze destroyed an apartment complex under construction and a post office branch, but left the
bar-and-restaurant district centered around Seventh Avenue unaffected.
``It's basically all concentrated in the Palm Avenue area,'' Annette DeLisle, president of the Ybor City Chamber of
Commerce, said Friday.
``It might affect traffic somewhat with people gawking at the ashes,'' DeLisle said, ``but it hasn't affected Seventh
Avenue.''
The fire also was not expected to affect tonight's Tropical Heatwave, the annual multiband concert staged by local
listener-supported radio station WMNF, 88.5 FM.
Randy Wynne, program director at the radio station, said the fire was at least three blocks away from the site of the
concert, which takes place in and around the Cuban Club on 14th Street.
``People may have to drive by the burned-out area, but it won't really affect the event,'' Wynne said Friday.
