Air CraftThe following are some key aircraft to have flown from the USS Forrestal. The Forrestal museum hopes to have these and other aircraft to exhibit with the ship.

McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom | Grumman A-6 Intruder
 
Grumman E=2 HawkeyeGrumman E-2 Hawkeye:
Airborne early-warning and command electronics aircraft. The eyes of the fleet, E-2s patrol the perimeters of the carrier task force to detect and assess any threat via the antenna, which turns at 6 rpm.

McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 HornetMcDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet:
Twin-seater, all-weather, night-attack fighter aircraft. Nation's first-strike fighter. First flown November, 1978. Capabilities demonstrated during the Persian Gulf War. The same aircraft shot down enemy fighters and subsequently bombed enemy targets on the same mission.

Grumman F-14 TomcatGrumman F-14 Tomcat:
Fighter aircraft with pilot and radar intercept officer in tandem. Developed in 1969 with variable-geometry (swing) wings. Speed range from 86 mph (with wings spread for landing) to Mach 2.34 (with wings swept back). Maximum altitude 56,000 feet.

McDonnell Douglas F-4 PhantomMcDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom
Fighter aircraft with pilot and radar intercept officer in tandem. the F-4 is noted for its record-breaking performance of Aug. 28, 1961, when it flew at a speed of 902.72 mph (Mach 1.2) at an altitude of 328 feet, climbed to a record height of 29,520 feet in 61.68 seconds and to 49,200 feet in 1 minute, 54.54 seconds.

Grumman A-6 IntruderGrumman A-6 Intruder
All-weather, low-level attack bomber with pilot and bombadier/navigator side by side. Developed in 1957, the A-6 carries a heavier and more varied load of armament and bombs than any other naval aircraft.
