Getting around our site
In order to view the enhanced multimedia features found within Tampa Bay Online, you must have a JavaScript-capable browser, either Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer, versions 3.0 or higher. (Windows95, NT, or Macintosh)

If you are are looking at our pages with one of these browsers and you cannot see Java or JavaScript applications such as our Real Time Sports Ticker, the Java/JavaScript option may have been disabled within your browser.

To enable these features check the following:

In Netscape Navigator:
Open the "Options" menu item and select "Network Preferences." Click on "Languages" and confirm that the "Enable Java," "Enable JavaScript" check boxes are selected.

In MS Internet Explorer:
Click on the "View" menu and select the "Options" menu. Select "Security" and check that the "Enable JavaScript Programs" option is selected.

Optional plug-ins and minimum hardware requirements
To play the audio or video or view the 3D virtual reality panoramas found on our site, you will need to extend your browser's capabilities with the following plug-ins. The download times will vary depending on your Internet connection, traffic on the Internet, etc. Check back here for future updates.

Requirements for the VivoActive Player plug-in

To experience the 360-degree panoramic images located in the Tour of Tampa Bay, you will need to download the LivePicture Viewer plug-in. This small download is free of charge and runs on Windows 95, Windows NT 4.0, or Power Macintosh computers with System 7.5 or higher. A minimum of 24 MB RAM and 28.8 Kbs modem speed is recommended. Click here to download the latest version.

For streaming video:
The video files (and some streaming audio files) in Tampa Bay Online's multimedia reports are produced in VivoActive's streaming file format (.viv). This feature enables users to view video without waiting for a large file to download. The free VivoActive Player plug-in is available for Netscape and Internet Explorer browsers on the Power Macintosh and as an ActiveX control for Microsoft Internet Explorer on the PC.

If you are using a Netscape browser and windows, you can download the VivoActive Player plug-in here. Once complete, double click the file "vivoplay.exe" and follow the installation program's instructions. For Microsoft Internet Explorer users, the VivoActive player will be automatically installed when you visit a Web page containing a Vivo video.

Requirements for the VivoActive Player plug-in:

* Minimum Power Macintosh requirements are 16MB RAM 3MB Disk Space and Netscape Navigator 2.0, Netscape Communicator 4.0, or Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 or later.
* Minimum PC requirements are 486DX2/66 CPU, 8MB RAM, 5MB Disk Space, 16-bit sound card (recommended) and Netscape Navigator 2.0, Netscape Communicator 4.0, or Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 or later.
A minimum 28.8 kbs modem speed or faster is recommended for downloading our streaming audio and video files.

Our audio
The the majority of the sound clips found on Tampa Bay Online including the Tampa Tribune's music reviews, are published in the WAV (.wav) file format. Windows users can access these files with the WAV players included on the Windows operating system. Macintosh users will need to download the external player SoundApp2.1.1. to convert and play the audio. You can find these and other WAV players at Tucows Internet Sofware Site.

For our sports fans who want to listen to free, live, on-demand radiocasts you will need to download the Real Player plug-in. Click here for browser and system requirements.
